Congregation Chasam Sofer - 8 Clinton Street, NYC - January 2010 . . . . The Chasam Sofer Synagogue is the second oldest synagogue in Manhattan (originally built for use as a synagogue.) It was erected in 1853, originally for the Congregation Rodeph Sholom. The Orthodox Congregation Chasam Sofer eventually took over the temple in 1853. The synagogue is also the longest continually operating one in NYC. Its Romanesque style building was recently renovated.
